Specifications - USS Oceanus (NCC-79603)
Summary
The USS Oceanus (NCC-79603) is an Intrepid-class Starship which was approved for construction under the order of Commodore Gregory Paladin and Starfleet Academy in 2394. She was originally slated to replace the aging and old USS Poseidon (NCC-42635), a Miranda-class Starship, and continue the legacy of the ship as the Poseidon-A. Plans where changed in mid-2395 when the Starfleet Academy saw the promise of the Poseidon and requested to keep the Miranda-class for ten additional years. Commodore Paladin instead requested the hull of the now-nameless Intrepid-class Starship to be commissioned as an independent starship. Starfleet Command gave the hull the name Oceanus, with NCC designation 79603, and kept her under the general authority of Commodore Paladin to direct her missions and affairs. The USS Oceanus finished construction at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards above Mars in December of 2395. By January of 2396, Starfleet Command had approved her for active duty service.
The USS Oceanus is intended to conduct missions of exploration and discovery, however it is fully capable of defending and holding its own in a conflict situation.
